Stories drive civilisations. As individuals, we’re inspired by sagas of good versus evil, touched by stories about love and relationships, moved by tales of self-discovery and in awe of fantastic creations. Stories have the powerful ability to bring people together — or drive them apart.

The Storymakers League (SML) started as an innovative project by Shakespot Sdn Bhd (now Shake Book Projects Sdn Bhd), in collaboration with Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM) aiming to unearth and nurture new talents, potential young Malaysian writers (10-14 year-olds) and successfully commercialise their creative work. It empowers these aspiring authors to unleash their imagination and turn ideas into reality.

Launched in May 2014 through AIM’s crowdsourcing platform UReka, the challenge received a total of about 500 entries and shortlisted down to 25 based on their ideas, creativity, language proficiency and writing skills. These selected young writers were then given the opportunity to attend writing workshops to learn how to hone their skills and at the same time participated in a round-robin challenge to write the chapters of this book.

“7 Doors” is the first book produced by these 25 talented members of Storymakers League, mainly residing in within Greater Kuala Lumpur. In 2017, the 1st Asian Story Writing Challenge was launched at the Frankfurt Book Fair in search for more young talents, aspiring author from across Asia. The chosen 50 from 9 different countries were grouped and given writing tasks virtually. “Imagination Unleashed #1” and “Imagination Unleashed #2” were written by this group of young talents. All these three books can be purchased in e-book format at Google Play.

Moving forward, more young writers will be enrolled in and more content will be produced so we can share these great new stories with the rest of the world for the good of humanity.
